Color photographs taken by George Poehler during the Korean War era

> Special Photo Exhibition 'Days in the Photographs'

These photographs were taken and developed during the Korean War, but they remained unknown until Kimi Nagai (current wherabouts unknown), who was in a relationship with George Fowler, rediscovered them from among the personal belongings left by him when he passed away. Of particular significance is the inclusion of slide photographs taken from the air in 1953, just before the signing of the Armistice Agreement, making them especially meaningful. It has been 70 years since the Armistice Agreement was signed. The Armistice Agreement was forged at the cost of sacrifices made by war veterans and finalized as the last armistice document. However, depictions of this have been preserved in a few black and white photographs, allowing us to catch only a glimpse of that moment in time. The framed photographs that can be viewed today were taken by George Poehler while he was serving as chief stenographer of the Military Armistice Commission as a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Navy around the time the Armistice Agreement was signed. They were photographed in color and sent to Hawaii to be developed. Lastly, we express our deep gratitude to the efforts of the Seoul Foreign Correspondents' Club, which has enabled even a fragment of the "Forgotten War", as it is sometimes called, to be pieced together through these photographs. We also pay our respects to the war veterans and their families who made sacrifices until the Armistice Agreement was reached.
